Driver involved in deadly accident found at home after crash, police say

The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Elyria Post is investigating a deadly crash that happened on Saturday Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m. on North Ridge Road near Lake Avenue in Sheffield Township, Lorain County.

A black 2004 Yamaha R6 motorcycle was traveling westbound on North Ridge Road. A yellow 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS was traveling westbound just ahead of the motorcycle. The yellow Chevy Cobalt and the black Yamaha R6 motorcycle collided. The motorcycle overturned and the rider was ejected. The yellow Chevy Cobalt did not stop.

The driver of the Yamaha motorcycle was identified as Tyler A. Merrero, 23, of Georgetown Avenue in Elyria. Merrero was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He was transported to University Hospital Elyria Medical Center. Merrerro died a short time later.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was identified as Danny F. Emery, age 28, of Elyria, Ohio. Emery was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and was not injured. He was located at his home a short time after the crash and is currently cooperating with police.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
