SHAKER SQUARE, OH (WOIO) - The North Union Farmers Market opened on Saturday, but the dreary weather did not stop market-goers from heading to Shaker Square for the first outdoor sale of the season.
People may have been feeling a little stir-crazy after several days in a row of rain in the forecast, but many ventured out into the elements to attend the popular farmers market.
Shaker Square's North Union Farmers Market, which is now in it's 22nd year, opened for the season on Saturday. The market has become a prime stop to collect seasonal and local produce, meat, dairy, breads, pastries, and other goods. The market opened with the annual blessing of the farms and farmers, which has become a ritual now to encourage a prosperous harvesting season. During Saturday's market, visitors were able to hear live music, watch a cooking demo, or witness the annual shearing of the sheep.
The market is scheduled to last through late December, every Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to noon.
With more rain in the forecast for next week, Sunday may be the only favorable day for quite some time now, so enjoy the weekend while you can.
