AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

State troopers are investigating a crash involving a drunk driver that sent two young children to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to a crash Monday at 11:30 P.M. near the intersection of Pressler and Killian Roads. A female driver with two children inside was turning her 2010 Honda onto Killian Road when she was struck by 22-year-old Michael Hicks in a 2008 Toyota. Troopers say Hicks did not stop at the stop sign.

The woman and her 5 and 7-year-old children were taken to an area hospital for treatment. The 5-year-old suffered a broken leg and a gash to the face.

Troopers say Hicks suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, but was later released into police custody. He was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. After a blood sample, he was charged with aggravated vehicular assault and operating a vehicle impaired.

State troopers are continuing the accident investigation.
