CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The Indians won their season opener against the Texas Rangers, and they did so without their starting second baseman. Jason Kipnis, who started the season on the 10-day disabled list with an injured shoulder wasn't on the field, and he wasn't even in attendance.

Kipnis celebrated his birthday on Monday night in Arizona at the University of Phoenix Stadium, where he watched the NCAA Tournament Championship from the stands while the Indians were a few states east in Texas.

The Arizona State University alum may not have been physically present for the Indians win, but he was tuning in to the baseball game from the stands.

Kipnis posted the photo in Instagram and said he was watching as his team tied the game, thanks to Edwin Encarnacion's home run.
