CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

A Newburgh Heights police cruiser was struck on I-77 early Sunday morning.

It happened while a Cuyahoga Heights police officer and a Newburgh Heights police officer were investigating an abandoned car, which had crashed into the center wall near Grant Avenue.

The Newburgh Heights officer was out of the cruiser, when a driver traveling north on I-77 crashed into it.

The cruiser was heavily damaged, but neither officer was injured.

The driver was taken to the hospital and the Ohio Highway Patrol is now handling the investigation.

Cuyahoga Heights police are also still looking for the driver of the abandoned car. Officers say the car was a rental and there was a bottle of wine in the glove box.
