Cedar Point teases waterpark with new video

SANDUSKY, OH (WOIO) - It's April and our last snowfall recently melted, but it's never too early to start thinking about and planning a trip to Cedar Point and their new waterpark.

Cedar Point Shores Waterpark is set to open on Saturday, May 27, and the park just released a new animated video highlighting the new rides and transformation that the old Soak City went through during the winter months.

The 18-acre waterpark is part of the amusement park that has been around since 1870.

Several of the waterpark's attractions have been renamed, but several new attractions are ready for their debut this year. New rides include:

  • Point Plummet - A six-story tall, 400-foot long, drop-style body slide where riders will be placed into a capsule. They then drop from a nearly vertical free fall.
  • Portside Plunge - Similar in height as Point Plummet, Portside Plunge drops riders through a tube with intense drops and turns.
  • Lakeslide Landing - A new family slide complex with 12 kid-sized water slides.
  • Lemmy's Lagoon - A new family-style splashground with geysers, water gadgets, and more.

"Our history started as a simple bathing beach back in 1870, when it was all about cooling off and enjoying time together along the shore of Lake Erie," said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point.

In addition to the new rides, visitors can expect more food and beverage options throughout the park as well. Opening day for the waterpark is scheduled for May 27, but season passholders can get a sneak peek on May 26.
