AVON LAKE, OH (WOIO) - Police are investigating an accident in Avon Lake that involved a vehicle that struck a utility pole. The accident caused power outages for thousands and prompted several schools to close for the day.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Lear Road and Walker Road around 6 a.m. Wednesday. The male driver was not injured.
Utility crews are repairing the damaged utility pole, which caused a power outage for more than 1,500 customers in the Avon Lake area. Power is expected to be restored later Wednesday morning.
The power outages also impacted several schools in the area, which prompted a closure for the day. Officials in the Avon Lake City School district canceled classes at Learwood Middle School and Eastview Elementary School for Wednesday.
