Inmate dies after being rushed to hospital; death under investigation

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The death of an inmate is under investigation after he died hours after being rushed to the hospital.

On April 11 at 12 a.m., Darnell Evans, 55, was arrested for outstanding misdemeanor warrants. After being booked at theCuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, Evans’ medical screening form was completed indicating a significant medical history.

At 9:48 a.m., April 11, Evans was seen by the jail nurse and given his prescribed medications. Evans complained of feeling sick and at 4:51 p.m., and Emergency Medical Service was contacted.

Cleveland Fire and EMS arrived at the jail and took Evans to St. Vincent Charity Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. He was pronounced dead at the hospital April 12 at 4 p.m.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
