Dozens displaced, 4 injured after overnight fire burns through apartment building

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH (WOIO) - An overnight 3-alarm fire ripped through a Cuyahoga Falls apartment building, leaving dozens of people without a home.

According to Captain Chris Martin with the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department, the incident took place at the Studio City Apartments in the 2200 block of Winter Parkway at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The fire department received a call for heavy smoke in the 66-unit, four-story apartment building. Several surrounding fire departments responded to assist with the blaze. Firefighters rescued several residents by ladder and pulling them from their apartment units.

At least 12 people were treated at the scene,but a total of four people were transported to the hospital by EMS, according to the Captain Martin. Three residents were treated for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was treated for dehydration.

Approximately 25 to 40 residents have been displaced. The fire department worked overnight to provide a cot, a motel room, or some other form of shelter. Some of the residents are expected to be able to return to their apartment later on Friday, but others may not be able to return to their homes for months.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
