CANTON, OH (WOIO) - The Stark County Sheriff's Office said a Narcotics Unit deputy was shot at on Wednesday night during a surveillance operation.
The deputy was assisting the Canton Police Department during a drug investigation late Wednesday night in the 2600 block of Cleveland Avenue S in Canton. According to the Stark County Sheriff, the deputy was spotted by a suspect. The deputy tried to leave the situation, but the suspect got into a car, followed the deputy, and then opened fire. The Sheriff said they believe two shots were fired. One bullet struck the car door and the other shattered a window. The deputy was not struck. The deputy immediately sped away and called for backup.
During the investigation, a warrant was issued for Frederick M. Hill. Officers from the Canton Police Department, Stark County Sheriff's Office, Barberton, and the US Marshal's office located Hill and arrested him at his home without incident.
Hill has been charged with felonious assault on a peace officer, and illegal cultivation of marijuana
