CANTON, OH (WOIO) - The Stark County Sheriff's Office said a Narcotics Unit deputy was shot at on Wednesday night during a surveillance operation.

The deputy was assisting the Canton Police Department during a drug investigation late Wednesday night in the 2600 block of Cleveland Avenue S in Canton. According to the Stark County Sheriff, the deputy was spotted by a suspect. The deputy tried to leave the situation, but the suspect got into a car, followed the deputy, and then opened fire. The Sheriff said they believe two shots were fired. One bullet struck the car door and the other shattered a window. The deputy was not struck. The deputy immediately sped away and called for backup.
