Evin King's family 'Feeling Awesome' about prison release

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Evin King's daughter Venus was just 13-years-old when her father went to prison for a murder he didn't commit. She was overcome with emotion about her father's release Wednesday, April 19.

He spent 23 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend. New forensic testing of evidence lead to his release.

After more than 20 years, wrongfully convicted murder suspect released

King's son, Evin King II, was 11-years-old.

Evin King says, "This is like being dead, when you're locked up.

"This is so awesome. I just feel so happy and proud for my dad coming home," said Evin King II.

King's mother died before seeing her son released from jail. Her daughter, King's sister, said she's dancing in Heaven today.

King has always maintained his innocence. 

According to the Ohio Innocence Project, he is the 25th person the organization has freed on grounds of innocence since it was founded in 2003.
