CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A former Parma officer charged with identity fraud and obstructing justice, has avoided jail time.

Michel Yonek, 42, is accused of helping a woman use a false identity at the JACK Casino last November.

Yonek has now been accepted into the Cuyahoga County Diversion Program.

After he successfully completes the program, the charges will be dismissed.

If he does not successfully complete the program, Yonek will be sentenced on the criminal charges.

Yonek resigned from the Parma police force in March. He had been an officer there since 1997.
