Holocaust survivors honored at Yom Hashoah V'Hagvurah

BEACHWOOD, OH (WOIO) - The Jewish Federation of Cleveland hosted their annual Yom Hashoah V'Hagvurah Sunday afternoon, which is an event dedicated to remembering those who survived the Holocaust and those who perished. The commemoration took place at the Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Beachwood.

The federation says an estimated 1,000 Holocaust survivors live in Cleveland and surrounding suburbs.

Rabbis and survivors from local synagogues carried Torah scrolls that survived the Holocaust , and the survivors and their families lit candles in memory of the millions of Jews who were killed during the Holocaust.

In addition, local schools entered a creative arts contest and students submitted their works on a theme of "Stand Up, Speak Out: Stopping Persecution Then and Now."
