Teen that prompted shelter-in-place at Shaker Heights High School now in custody

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - There was a shelter-in-place at Shaker Heights High School around 8 p.m. Monday. School officials said it was a precautionary measure.

There was a report of a suicidal 17-year-old male in the area, police said. The teen was located and taken to an area hospital.

Students at an extra-curricular activity were told to shelter-in-place as a result. The order has since been lifted.

There were no injuries.

Police said a handgun was recovered near the scene.

School officials released the following statement at the time of the incident: "The Shaker Heights Police Department is dealing with a matter in the vicinity of the High School. As a precaution, we have brought all students and adults into our schools so they are safe."
