Perry Township man killed in pedestrian accident, alcohol believed to be a factor

PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 76-year-old Charles Greenwalt, or Perry Township, was struck and killed by a vehicle late Thursday night.

According to the OSHP, the crash occurred at approximately 9:21 p.m. Thursday on Whipple Avenue North near 14th Street in Perry Township. The driver of the vehicle was operating a black 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Greenwalt was attempting to cross Whipple Avenue without a crosswalk. Police also say alcohol was detected on Greenwalt, and is believed to have been a factor in the accident.

The fire department and EMS took Greenwalt to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The crash is still under investigation.
