AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

The 1-year-old boy who was taken from an Akron apartment Wednesday morning has been found safe, according to Akron police. He was dropped off at his grandparents' home.

Police say his father, 27-year-old Darius Heard, who does not have custody, kicked in a door and grabbed him around 4:30 a.m. It triggered an Amber Alert for the missing child.

The boy, Darius Heard, Jr., will turn two next month. He and his mother just moved into their apartment Tuesday.

"he broke in the house and started hitting me," the mother told a 911 dispatcher after the incident. "Then my mom came in there and she called the police and he just ran out of the house, put him in the car and pulled off."

After about seven hours, the boy had been dropped off at his paternal grandmother's house.

The boy's father is still on the run. He faces kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and domestic violence charges.

Authorities can't track the silver Chevy Sonic he's in -- which has Texas plates -- because they don't have a tag or vehicle identification number.
