DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Piano Man was in Cleveland Friday night, ready to play hits to a sold out crowd at Progressive Field. Fans came from near and far to make it to Friday night's Billy Joel concert.
According to fans that spoke with Cleveland 19 News, his hits have gotten better with age. Time and time again, fans said their favorite song was "Piano Man."
Downtown bars were packed hours before the concert started. Everywhere you turned, you bumped into a Billy Joel fan.
"Very excited, it was a surprise, he treated me, found the tickets in May," said a fan named Susan.
Susan and her husband drove four hours from Buffalo to be at the concert.
"He said, 'We're going to Billy Joel,' I don't think I've been to one of his concerts in 20 years," she said.
The Davidson family made the five hour drive up to Cleveland from Ashland, Kentucky. The concert tickets were a surprise for Tyler's 14th birthday. His mom says he's the biggest fan in the family.
"Love, love Billy Joel, he's the very best," she said.
Kim Johnivan and her husband hopped on a plane to get here from Texas.
"He was my very first concert in 1989. So I've seen a lot of Billy Joel concerts. We're from Houston to see our friends," she said.
Cleveland 19 also met fans from right outside of Cleveland, and from Amherst, Vermillion and Toledo -- all packing bars, restaurants and hotels.
"We're making a night of it in beautiful downtown Cleveland," said Tammy Kneisley.
