CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - An 8-year-old child has died, while the mother and her son were rescued by Cleveland firefighters from a house fire early Monday morning.
The fire was first reported shortly before 6 a.m. in the 2300 block of Searsdale Avenue.
According to the Cleveland Fire Department's assistant chief-on-duty, there were multiple family members trapped in the home. A mother and one of her children jumped from the second floor to safety. They were both taken to MetroHealth Hospital with minor injuries.
A fire official said a second child, Marious Cruz, was rescued from the third floor by firefighters. Firefighters gave Marious CPR, and then transported him to the hospital where he eventually died.
Firefighters believe the fire started on the second floor.
There were no smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire.
The Cleveland Fire Department has had a busy overnight. They also responded to a fatal house fire on East 49th Street just after midnight.
