LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - A 70-year-old man is dead after an accident in Lorain County. The crash happened in the Village of Wellington around 7 a.m. on July 19.
Investigators said Frederick Alspach was driving a Honda Helix Scooter southbound on North Main Street approaching Kelly Street. Rodney Haswell was operating a Mercury Milan northbound on North Main Street approaching on Kelly Street.
According to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Haswell failed to yield to the oncoming traffic while turning left onto Kelly Street, Alspach struck the vehicle.
Alspach was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries, he later died at the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing, no charges have been filed yet. Alcohol and or drug usage is not suspected to be a factor of the crash.
Alspach was the vice chairman for the Lorain County Metro Parks board of directors.
