Akron teen convicted in cookout killing

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A jury convicted Fred Taylor Jr., 19, of Beechwood Drive in Akron, Friday in the shooting death of 23-year-old Javon Knaff.

Taylor Jr. was found guilty of murder with a gun specification, felonious assault, and having a weapon under disability.

According to prosecutors, both Taylor Jr. and Knaff were at a cookout at the Rosemary Apartments on Nadia Court in Akron on May 30, 2016. The two got into an argument and Taylor Jr. shot Knaff several times. Knaff was taken to the hospital and died a short time later. Taylor fled to West Virginia, where he was eventually arrested.

Taylor will be sentenced next week.
