Final meal details shared for Ohio man scheduled for execution Wednesday

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - On Wednesday the State of Ohio is set to execute its first death row inmate in three years and he has selected pizza and other items to eat before he is put to death.

Ronald Phillips was convicted for raping and killing his girlfriend's 3 year-old daughter Sheila Evans in Akron.

As a part of the execution process the inmate is allowed to make a request for a final meal, but it's subject to change.

According to the Ohio Department of Corrections here is what Phillips has requested for his final meal:

  • Large cheese, bell pepper and mushroom pizza
  • Strawberry cheesecake
  • 2 liter of Pepsi
  • 10 oz grape juice
  • Piece of unleavened bread

Phillips will also be offered a breakfast at 5:30 AM the morning of the execution:

  • Biscuits and gravy
  • Grits
  • Milk
  • Sweetener
  • Coffee
  • Juice Packet

Last month, a federal appeals court permitted Ohio's use of midazolam, a sedative involved in problematic executions in Ohio and elsewhere.

Executions have been on hold in the state since January 2014 because of concerns about midazolam and problems finding other drugs.
