MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - A groundbreaking ceremony for Fat Head's Brewery was held Tuesday at its new location in Middleburg Heights.
The new site is located on Engle Lake Road near Interstate 71 and the Bagley Road interchange. The previous facility was outgrown near Sheldon Road in Middleburg Heights.
The local brewery known to many Clevelanders was started in 2009 by a bar owner in Pittsburgh and another basement brewer. The company has grown in the past several years to producing 33,000 barrels a year.
The $12 million-dollar expansion will include a new facility which will gain up to as many as 150,000 barrels per year. The brewery includes a new packaging operation that will put beers in cans, additions to packaging bottles and kegs, and a 250 seat tap house. The new brewery will open 74 jobs.
The new facility aims to attract bus tours and beer enthusiasts both local and globally.
The brewery has won several awards under Matt Cole and Mike Zoscak.
