An idle furnace at a northeast Ohio steel mill could soon be fired up once more.

According to the Chronicle Telegram, Republic Steel in Lorain may soon produce a product known as pig iron -- an intermediate form of iron used in the conversion process to make steel, cast iron, or wrought iron.

The plant has been closed since 2016.

No official timeline for the recall of workers has been announced.
