All rides closed, fair remains open; Gov. Kasich says people should still attend the Ohio State Fair

(OHIO) WOIO - Ohio Gov. John Kasich said the Midway at the Ohio State Fair is closed, this will allow officials to inspect every ride.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a piece of the Fire Ball ride detached from the machine. One person was killed and seven others were injured.

"Ohioans should come to the fair, there's so much to do," Kasich said.

The Ohio Agriculture Director David Daniels said safety is a top priority of the fair. He said each inspector has years of training.

"I don't wanna speculate on what caused this," Kasich said.

Kasich said workers are doing everything they can to make sure the fair is safe. Investigators said some of the people injured were not on the ride, some of the victims were hit by debris.

At this time there is no timetable on how long it will take to complete the investigation of the incident.
