Back to school: Sales tax weekend begins Aug. 4

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The first day of school is around the corner for most kids in northeast Ohio, and the state's Department of Taxation is offering a tax break to parents for their children's back to school shopping.

Thanks to Ohio Senate Bill 9, a one-time sales tax holiday will be offered beginning Friday, Aug. 4 and will last through Sunday, Aug. 6.

During the holiday, items meeting this criteria are exempt from sales tax:

  • Clothing priced at $75 or less
  • School supplies priced at $20 or less
  • An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less

There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase.
