CANTON, OH (WOIO) - Last year's Hall of Fame Game was no doubt disappointing for NFL fans. The whole thing was called off due to unsafe conditions on the field. The paint on the field wasn't drying properly and there was fear the players would slip.

So how will this year be different?

When the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals take the field at Tom Benson Stadium for Thursday Night Football, conditions will be safer and much different than last year.

Chief of Staff Pete Fierli says it was disappointing to have to make the call, but the decision was made with player safety in mind. He calls it a once in a lifetime mishap.

As part of the total overhaul of the football stadium on the Hall of Fame campus in Canton, the newly dedicated field now boasts a permanent, synthetic surface.

"We have a new field this year. Everything is sewn into the surface on this field in the new Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. So there will be no issue when it comes to paint," Fierli said.

He says they aim to do things bigger and better each year during Enshrinement festivities. And they always aim to honor their heroes, by protecting their safety.
