LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

A 3-year-old girl was found unresponsive Tuesday in a Lorain County pond. She later died at a hospital in Oberlin.

Lorain County deputies were dispatched to Gore Orphanage Road near Becker Road in Henrietta Township just before noon. They found the child unresponsive in a neighboring pond.

An investigation revealed the girl, 3-year-old Sandra Gut, had gone missing from her Gore Orphanage Road residence at some point. Authorities could not determine Tuesday how long she'd been missing.

The girl was found in a pond to the rear of the property by her mother, Maggie Blair.

Authorities say Blair and emergency medical crews both attempted CPR.

The girl was taken to a hospital in Oberlin, about 6 miles east of the scene, where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
