Police, bomb squad called to Edgewater Beach park

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Edgewater Beach is normally filled with beachgoers trying to soak up the sun or cool down with a swim, but police and the Cleveland bomb squad stormed the beach Tuesday night.

According to Cleveland Metroparks officials, the Cleveland Police Department's bomb squad and Metropark Rangers responded to an incident at Edgewater Beach late Tuesday night. An man claimed that he planted an explosive device in the sand.

The police activity was focused primarily around the park's new beach house.

During the search, a suspicious device was recovered. It was later determined that the device was an imitation.

A witness told Cleveland 19 News that a man was at the park yelling and screaming to himself while waving around a suspicious object.

Officers closed access to the park during the investigation, but the park did reopen for Wednesday morning.
