CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - There is a new Coast Guard commander in charge of the Great Lakes region.
Rear Adm. Joanna Nunan was sworn in during the ceremony Wednesday morning. She is replacing Rear Adm. June Ryan, who is retiring.
Ryan originally took command of the 9th District in 2015.
Nunan moved to Cleveland from Washington D.C., where she was the Military Advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security.
The Great Lakes region includes the five Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and eight states in the surrounding region.
The ceremony was held at Windows on the River in Cleveland.
