MONTVILLE, OH (WOIO) - A woman is dead after a tree fell on her SUV while she was driving in Montville Township on Friday. A storm with high winds had just moved through the area.

Montville Township is about 50 miles south of Cleveland. The accident happened on River Styx Road south of Turnberry Drive.

Police said a tree fell from the east side of the road around 1 p.m., hitting the vehicle, forcing it to veer left off the roadway and into a wooded area.

The victim is 28-year-old Devon Cook, from Medina. Lt. Matt Neil with the Montville Township Police Department said an infant was in the backseat when the tree fell on the vehicle.

The infant was transported to Medina Hospital and did not have any obvious life threatening injuries.

"We had a storm roll through just before that. The victim, the driver succumbed to the injuries on scene," Neil said.

Authorities say the crash is under investigation, but appears to be a freak accident. They said no other vehicles were involved.
