Cleveland cops and kids reel for lakefront fishing party

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Fishing, cops and kids don't typically mix; however, a summer day in downtown Cleveland can bring most anything together.

Kids & Cops Fish CLE, hosted by North Coast Harbor and the Cleveland Police Foundation, was off and reeling Tuesday morning as scores of event-goers convened at two fishing zones located at Voinovich Park and the north end of the East 9th Street pier, according to

Downtown Cleveland Alliance Volunteers handed out free poles and bait, policemen offered up free fishing lessons, and youngsters -- apart from casting lines -- got the chance to leave some temporary works at the North Coast Harbor chalkART zone.

And, to cap off the event, kids gathered for "bubblepalooza," put on by Gary Pearlman -- a local entertainer who holds a pair of Guinness World Records for bubble-making.
