CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Mayor Frank Jackson announced Thursday there have been 70 murders in the city of Cleveland so far this year.  There were 61 murders at this time in 2016.

Jackson and other law enforcement officials say they need the public's help to solve crimes.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams says there will be a special tip line on Sunday, August 13 from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Williams says officers will be answering the phones and are hoping for leads in ongoing investigations. Callers can remain anonymous.

The number to call has not been released yet.

Williams adds they are in the "process of re-vamping how they work homicides in the city and bringing in additional resources".
