CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Officials say a woman was caught trying to bring a gun into Cleveland Hopkins Airport on Wednesday.
A Transportation Security Administration officer detected the gun at a checkpoint as it passed along the conveyor belt inside her carry-on bag.
TSA officers immediately contacted Cleveland police, who responded to the checkpoint.
The woman was issued a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Her weapon was a Hi-Point 40 Cal. Smith & Wesson JCP handgun. Officials say she did have the proper weapons permit, but you are only allowed to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked and packed separately from the ammunition. The firearm has to be taken to the airline check-in counter.
TSA says they have detected six firearms at Hopkins checkpoints so far this year and detected a total of nine firearms last yar.
