Glenville High School grad fighting her way to the 2020 Olympics

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Glenville High School grad Morelle McCane has come a long way in just five years.

She began boxing at the age of 18 and now five years later she is just a few matches away from a spot in the 2020 Olympics.

It's hard to imagine just a few years ago McCane took a break from the sport .

" I took a year and a half off to finish school, I was fortunate enough to graduate from community college but I didn't feel like that's what I wanted to do," she said.

She followed her heart back into the ring and it paid off big time, she won a 2015 Cleveland area Golden Gloves Tournament then and this past March McCane won the Elite Division of the USA Boxing Elite Qualifier earning a spot in December's National Championships, putting her just a few steps from Tokyo in 2020.

She even has long term plans after boxing.

"I want to start my own academy, not just for boxing but incorporating arts with boxing," she said.
