MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - Community members will gather Tuesday evening for a special tribute to Officer Mathew Mazany.

The Mentor police officer was the victim of a fatal hit skip accident on Sunday, June 24 on SR 2, just east of SR 306.

Officer Mazany, 41, had responded to the scene to help with a traffic stop, when he was struck by a car driven by Brian Anthony, 24.

Police said Anthony fled the scene, but he was arrested several hours later at Mentor Lagoons Marina.

Anthony is being held without bond and is charged with tampering with evidence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Funeral arrangements for Officer Mazany have not been released; however, there will be a brief remembrance and moment of silence Tuesday at 6:50 p.m. at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater, located at 8600 Munson Road.

The ceremony will be held before the Mentor Rocks concert.

Donations for the Mazany family will be accepted at the beverage sales stations.

Anyone attending Tuesday's memorial is asked to wear blue.

Officer Mazany leaves behind a son, a father, a brother and an ex-wife.
