Trial date for driver who struck and killed Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A trial date has now been scheduled for the driver charged in connection with the fatal hit-skip of Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey.

Israel Alvarez will go on trial Oct. 22 in front of Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Shannon Gallagher.

Alvarez is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, drug possession and failure to stop after an accident.

Fahey was struck on killed Jan. 24, 2017 on I-90 just west of Warren Road on the Cleveland/Lakewood border.

According to police, Alvarez fled the scene after the accident and was arrested later that morning at a home in Lorain.

When Alvarez was arrested, fellow officers used Fahey's handcuffs to arrest him.

Alvarez remains in jail on a $500,000 bond.
