CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Funeral services were held on Thursday for Cleveland police officer Vu Nguyen.
The final radio call for Officer Nguyen lasted about two minutes.
"A grateful city thanks you for your service," the message was spread at the ceremony.
He was an officer with the department for 20 years, during his career he was an officer for the Department of Corrections division for four years.
"Your assignment here is complete. Godspeed," the message stated.
The service for the 50-year-old officer was held at Our Lady of Angels Church in Cleveland.
On July 2, Officer Nguyen was in training, learning to handle drug-sniffing dogs when he collapsed in the 90-plus degree heat.
The husband and father of two was rushed to MetroHealth, then transported to the Cleveland Clinic and put on life support.
He died July 6 surrounded by family and friends.
Hundreds of mourners attended the officer's visitation inside Chambers Funeral Home on Rocky River Drive in Cleveland Wednesday.
Officer Nguyen was laid to rest at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River.
