CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - In honor of "National French Fry Day," we decided to go on a quest to find the best fries in the city of Cleveland.
We took to Facebook to ask self-proclaimed "foodies" their opinions on the subject.
The word foodie, according to Merriam-Webster is "a person having an avid interest in the latest food fads."
27 people recommended 24 places thanks to the help of Cleveland Cooks' Jen Picciano.
A wide variety of names popped up, among them:
With so many options, we decided to visit two popular favorites.
SASA, a Japanese-style pub, specializing in sushi and small plate dishes.
The manager, Scott Kim, has been in the cooking business for twenty years and over time got a sense for what works.
"I love our fries, they're the most popular item on the menu and for good reason."
They make the fries with a Japanese twist, the fries are seasoned with spices, and topped with seaweed, before being placed in an edible basket.
Next up was Bar Cento, in the heart of Ohio City.
Directly across from the West Side Market, the bar specializes in Italian dishes and stays open late.
The cooks prep the french fries by blanching them and frying them in a combination of duck and pork fat.
The generous portions range from 3 sizes.
