CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Julia Lieb wanted to make her boys' first Cleveland Indians game memorable, and she knocked it out of the park.
"I thought I was going to win money," explained her son, Sasha.
Sasha won something even better.
His dad, Chief Petty Officer Tim Lieb, has been in Guantanamo Bay with the Coast Guard for the past year.
"It was a challenging year, for the boys especially. It was hard, a lot of sleepless nights," Julia said.
He surprised the boys by showing up to the Tribe game.
"I was like, 'Wait, who is home?' Then I looked behind me and my dad is there!" Sasha said, with a smile ear to ear.
It was Tim's game plan, and Julia couldn't even tell friends and family about the big surprise.
"Jonah was so scared he was hiding. I was hoping he wouldn't be too scared to hug his dad, but as soon as he saw him he just melted," Julia described the evening.
As soon as Sasha saw his dad, "I cried a little."
So did we Sasha, so did we.
Six-year-old Jonah said the best part of the game, "Dad!"
After the emotional reunion, the family only got a couple of hours before Chief Petty Officer Lieb had to go back to his base for a couple of days.
He'll be back for good this weekend. The boys said they already have plans for him!
"Probably going to snuggle with him a lot," Sasha said.
