AKRON, OH (WOIO) -
Akron police are investigating a police involved shooting in the 700 block of Baird Street Thursday evening.
According to an Akron police press release, officers were called out to the 700 block of Baird Street around 9 p.m. for a male armed with a pistol banging on doors and windows of a residence.
According to the caller, the male appeared to be intoxicated and threatened to shoot through the door.
Akron officers arrived to the scene and confronted the suspect on the porch. The suspect was asked to show officers his hands and get down on the porch. Shots were fired and the suspect was struck. He was transported to Akron City Hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable condition. A handgun was found on the porch.
Police have identified the suspect as Jermain Lehman, 30, with a last known address on Pondview Ave. in Akron.
Lehman is being charged with carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under disability.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation will assist with the investigation and processing of the crime scene. The officers involved are a four in a half year veteran and the other has less than a year service with the Akron Police Department.
Both officers are on paid administrative leave consistent with departmental policies.
