City of Beachwood opens the doors to new public safety center

BEACHWOOD, OH (WOIO) - Officials from Beachwood and community residents were on hand Sunday morning to get their first look at the city's new public safety center.

The new facility is expected to serve as the city's fire department headquarters for the next 40 years.

In addition to housing the fire department, the Beachwood Police Department's dispatch center has been relocated to the new building. The move is an effort that would allow more dispatchers while saving money.

The facility will feature a 9/11 memorial comprising of a piece of 9/11 steel that comes from Fire Station 1.

Beachwood Mayor Martin Horwitz, Fire Chief Patrick Kearns, more than a dozen dalmatians, and others were on hand to help give the public tours of the modern building.
