Wheelchair maker to cut 225 jobs in Elyria

ELYRIA, Ohio - A northeast Ohio company that makes wheelchairs and other health-care equipment plans to cut 225 jobs at an Elyria plant.

Invacare Corp. says the jobs, both managers and blue-collar workers will be eliminated over the next several months.

Invacare chairman Malachi Mixon blames the cuts on cheap foreign labor and reduced federal reimbursement for health-care equipment for seniors.

Invacare has about 1,500 employees in Elyria and North Ridgeville southwest of Cleveland.
