Company says Elyria plant might be closing

ELYRIA, Ohio - Company officials warn that the days might be numbered for a steel products plant west of Cleveland.

If the Copperweld Pipe and Conduit factory in Elyria closes, 65 people will be out of jobs.

Plant manager Don Lutz says Copperweld's parent company in Missouri recently decided to move most of the plant's production to Louisville, Ky. He says union workers were notified on Friday that a decision would be made within the next month and a half on whether the Elyria facility stays open.

Lutz says so far, there's no word on whether the workers will be able to transfer to Louisville.

The more than 50-year-old plant makes steel tubing for industrial use.
