SOLON, Ohio - Federal workplace safety investigators are looking into an accident earlier this week that killed a northeast Ohio man delivering granite.
Fire officials who responded on Tuesday morning say that Mark Kolenc, 48, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, was crushed by seven granite plates weighing thousands of pounds. They say he was delivering the granite to a construction company in Solon and it accidentally slid off of his truck when he undid the sling holding the slabs in place.
The owner of the construction firm says that employees hammered the granite to free Kolenc. But he was pronounced dead at a hospital. The Cuyahoga County coroner says that he died from chest and abdominal injuries and has ruled the death accidental.
