Kent State to pay $70,000 in student's finger loss

KENT, Ohio - Kent State University has agreed to pay $70,000 to a student who accidentally cut off part of a finger during a woodworking class.

The payment detailed Tuesday in the Ohio Court of Claims will go to Hannah Stone, of Chardon. She cut off the tip of her right index finger in 2002 while using a circular table saw that lacked a guard.

Stone was involved in a wood technology class as part of her interior design program.
