Gas leak triggers explosion, fire in Summit County

BARBERTON, Ohio - A natural gas leak triggered an explosion and subsequent fire Monday afternoon at an apartment complex in Barberton, 19 Action News reported.

No injuries were reported as everyone inside the heavily damaged structure was successfully evacuated. Soon after the blast, the natural gas was shut off and firefighters were able to quickly control the blaze.

A crew attempting to install surveillance equipment reportedly caused the leak when digging in a nearby area.

There was some concern that the gas would get into the sewer system, but that potentially disastrous situation was averted.
