McLeod leaving Local 4, Pistons broadcasts

Detroi, MI - Fred McLeod, the longtime WDIV-TV (Local 4) sportscaster, is leaving the station later this year.

He also won't return as FSN Pistons play-by-play man next season, media relations director Tim Bryant confirmed.

"Fred has graciously agreed to continue in his role as a sports anchor and reporter at Local 4 for the next several months while we conduct a comprehensive search for his successor," WDIV news director Neil Goldstein said in an e-mail.

McLeod, who is seeking a broadcast job with the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been with WDIV since 1989. He has anchored the weekend sports report and hosted "Sports Final Edition." His wife, Beth McLeod, is a traffic reporter at the station.

McLeod has been the voice of the Pistons on cable for more than two decades. Bryant said FSN will give "strong consideration" to George Blaha.

Blaha did play-by-play for Channel 20 telecasts and radio broadcasts on WDFN-AM (1130) last season. FSN color analyst Greg Kelser will return, Bryant said.
