Helicopter Crashes Into Lake Erie

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a low-flying helicopter crashed into Lake Erie less than a mile from the Davis-Besse nuclear plant.

The two people inside sustained minor injuries after the front end of the helicopter hit the water and caused it to flip yesterday.

The state highway patrol says the pilot says he was flying about 26 feet above the water doing a survey. The pilot and his passenger managed to get out of the helicopter after it crashed.

A private boater let them hold on to the side of the boat until authorities arrived.

Authorities say the helicopter was owned by a company in Ashland, Oregon, and the pilot has about 20 years of flying experience.
