16-Month-Old Baby Survives Vicious Beating

AKRON, Ohio - A 16-month-old baby in Akron is injured, but alive after she was punched and then thrown against a wall by a babysitter, 19/43 News' Bill Safos reported.

Detectives said that 24-year-old Corey Allen Smith (pictured, right) is to blame.

Smith, who was babysitting the child, appeared before a judge on Wednesday faced with charges of child endangering.

19/43 News tried to talk to the baby's family, but was told that they had no comment other than to say, "it's a bug misunderstanding."

Police claim that the baby girl was attacked on Monday night in a home on Aberdeen Street.

Smith told detectives that he was playing video games when he became angry and snapped.

The baby is hospitalized with a skull fracture, a broken collarbone and a torn liver.
