Fugitive Doctor Arrested in Middle East

Cleveland, OH - Breaking news into the 19 Action Newsroom.

The FBI says a fugitive doctor charged in the cyanide poisoning death of his wife has been captured in the Middle East - and will be extradited to the US to face trial.

38-year-old Yazeed Essa of Gates Mills was arrested Saturday as he tried to clear customs in Cyprus after a flight from Beirut, Lebanon.

Essa was arrested on a charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

A charge of aggravated murder was filed against him in Cleveland in February. He will be held in Cyprus until US authorities extradite him to Ohio.

Essa disappeared three weeks after his wife Rosemarie Essa died on February 24th, 2005, when she collapsed behind the wheel of her car and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.
